Home to UNLV's Sam Boyd Stadium, Whitney Nevada is one of the principal suburban communities to the east of Las Vegas. With a population just shy of 24,000 (2010 census), Whitney has enjoyed a gradual neighborhood resurgence over the last several years with businesses slowly recovering economically, and housing projects now being constructed on vacant land.
Other eastern areas of Las Vegas are the resort community of Lake Las Vegas, and the more moderately priced Calico Ridge, both with combined populations of approximately 40,000.
Still further to the southeast, overlooking the 112 mile long Lake Mead (North America's largest man-made lake), Boulder City plays host to many of the areas most prized water-related activities. Boating, water skiing, fishing, swimming, and sunbathing are just a sampling of what's available. The area around the lake also has numerous coves with rocky cliffs and isolated sandy beaches perfect for exploring or just escaping from the commotion of everyday life.
Things To Consider: As one of the less expensive communities in the Las Vegas Valley with a cost of living index below the national average, Whitney has many affordable options for prospective residents. Monthly rent averages less than $1,000 with the median home price hovering somewhere between $150,000 and $200,000. The city is also comfortably located directly along interstate 15.
Located approximately 25 miles from the glitter of the Las Vegas Strip (93/95 North to Las Vegas), Boulder City prides itself on maintaining a relaxed, peaceful lifestyle . . . a true oasis in the heart of the desert. Residents enjoy a quaint, small town atmosphere, historic charm and an excellent quality of life with a low crime rate and high quality police and fire services. As of the 2010 Census, the population of the city was just over 15,000 with a very low overall density of 74 people for every square mile, making Boulder City the largest city in Nevada by land area and the 35th largest in the country at 202 total square miles.
Worth noting is the fact that Boulder City is also one of only two cities in the whole of Nevada that prohibit gambling.
Schools: Visit Clark County School District zoning to find out what schools are close to your prospective community.
